The chateau had been expecting me for some time, he exclaimed. I had already ruled out the Mcely ruin, so I went on the tour just out of politeness. As I passed through the silent rooms filled with the acrid stench of old age, with plaster flaking off in long strips and crunching under the soles of my feet, I felt that I had returned home.
